CASTLEGAR TO HOST CANADIAN HYDROPOWER ASSOCIATION
Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Castlegar – Columbia Power Corporation and Fortis Inc. are pleased to announce that the Board of Directors of the Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA) will be holding its upcoming board meeting in Castlegar on July 26th and 27th. Columbia Power Corporation and Fortis Inc., members of the CHA, are co-hosting the event.

The CHA, based in Ottawa, was formed in 1998 to promote the technical, economic, social, and environmental advantages of hydropower. It is comprised of almost 50 members from across Canada and represents all aspects of the hydro industry, including hydro producers, manufacturers, developers, engineering firms and others interested in the hydro industry.

“Our Board is made up of hydro developers from across Canada and everyone is excited to meet in Castlegar to learn first hand about the projects that Columbia Power, Fortis and BC Hydro are pursuing in the region,” said Jacob Irving, President of the CHA. “These projects are known for innovation in both operation and design but perhaps, more importantly, they are also known for their attention to sustainability, environmental sensitivity and community relations. Our Board members will be keen to learn how things are done in the Columbia Basin and bring some of those lessons home.”

In addition to their meeting, board members will tour a number of local hydro facilities and will partake in some local culture. “Columbia Power is excited to have the opportunity to co-host this event with Fortis,” said Audrey Repin, Director of Communications and Community Relations for Columbia Power. “This is an excellent opportunity to showcase our region and convey to others in the hydro industry how we manage our water resources.”

Columbia Power Corporation owns the Arrow Lakes Generating Station, the Brilliant Dam and the Brilliant Expansion in partnership with Columbia Basin Trust.
