In 1994, Columbia Power Corporation (CPC) acquired a picturesque 46-acre parcel of land located on the Kootenay River, near South Slocan, BC. In 1999, the Slocan Pool Advisory Committee was formed to help CPC determine the best long-term ownership structure of the Slocan Pool property and the best public use for the historical property.
The Committee was made of local community residents who worked towards the establishment of a management plan for this land. Trail maintenance work was completed in 2002, including the removal of some danger trees along pathways and general upkeep of the property.
In the spring of 2003, CPC provided information signage for trees in the area, which was developed with the help of Slocan Pool Advisory Committee member Peter Wood. The signage was placed on mature trees along the trails to distinguish all of the various tree species. Peter Wood and volunteer Rob Rebitt installed the signage along the trails.
In addition, Peter Wood installed three eight-foot sections of boardwalk along the trails using recycled lumber. The boardwalks help to provide additional stability to the pathway. As the owners of the property, CPC would like to acknowledge and thank these caring members of our community for their efforts and contributions to this picturesque area.
