Company History
Columbia Power Corporation (CPC), a Crown corporation wholly owned and controlled by the Province of British Columbia, was established under the Company Act in 1994 to own and administer hydroelectric power assets purchased by the Province in the Columbia Basin.
CPC's primary mandate is to undertake power project investments, as the agent of the Province, on a joint venture basis with the Columbia Basin Trust (CBT). These power projects include the Arrow Lakes Generating Station, Brilliant Expansion Project, Waneta Expansion Project and other such power generation, transmission or distribution projects in the Columbia Basin which CPC and CBT may agree upon.
The Brilliant Dam purchase in 1996 was the first investment of the joint venture partners. CPC's objective in making power investments is to support the employment, economic development and resource management objectives of both the Province and CBT in the Columbia Basin region while acting within the constraints of a commercial corporation.
Columbia Power Corporation
and the Columbia Basin Trust
CBT, reflecting the interests of the people in the region, is an equal partner in joint ventures with CPC, the Province's representative.
The joint venture partnership is contributing to the economic, environmental and social well-being of the Columbia Basin by planning, acquiring and developing power projects in the region.
These investments are creating new jobs for local workers, income for the joint venture partners, and delivering benefits to local communities.
CPC and CBT are investing in power projects that will help to build strong local economies based on the social and environmental values of people in the Kootenays. For more information contact us.
