2007 Trade Fairs 2007 Columbia Power Corporation Community Relations staff attended trade fairs in Creston, Cranbrook and Invermere during April and May 2007. These events allow staff from CPC to meet residents and discuss the joint venture power projects. CPC will be visiting these towns in 2008, as well as Revelstoke and Fernie, and look forward to meeting with residents at that time. Castlegar Sunfest 2007 As part of the Castlegar Sunfest Weekend, Columbia Power Corporation once again participated in the Childrens' Festival, held in the Castlegar Spray Park on June 1st and 2nd, 2007. CPC Community Relations staff hosted their ever-popular beading projects table, and children of all ages joined in creating assorted beaded crafts. CPC staff also participated in the Sunfest Parade along with workers from the Brilliant Expansion Project. BC Rivers Day 2007 Rivers Day 2007 was held on Sunday, September 23rd in Gyro Park in Trail. Again this year CPC Community Relations staff attended this popular event with Columbia Basin Trust, providing a free fish pond with prizes for the children. CPC staff are looking forward to attending this event again next year. Castlegar Community Christmas Celebration Columbia Power Corporation’s annual family holiday event, the Castlegar Community Christmas Celebration, was a big hit again this year with 400 people visiting the Castlegar Complex on Sunday, November 25th. A kick-off event to Castlegar’s Winterfest, Community Christmas focuses on family, fun and free activities. Children of all ages came out for the day to take part in crafts, games, entertainment and other activities. Kids got the chance to meet Christmas friends, too. Jack Frost, Cat in the Hat, Winter Princess, Penguin and a whole team of elves helped everyone with their gift making, cupcake walks and letters to Santa. Children, parents and grandparents were all in the Christmas spirit and many left with bags of free goodies they had made including ornaments, mantle/table decorations, bookmarks, cards, antlers and snow-globes. Everyone also had the opportunity to make tree decorations for the community Winterfest Christmas tree in downtown Castlegar. Over the day, all participants were entertained with festive music by youngsters and local performers while the Lions Club of Castlegar provided food and refreshments for the crowd. Organized each year by Joanne Baker and Pat Foodikoff, Community Christmas would not be possible without the support of community partner, the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, and the 30 volunteers who came out to help with the event. Thanks, too, to all of the youth volunteers who made the day that much more special for kids who wanted to meet a Christmas character. Columbia Power would like to thank the event coordinators, Chamber of Commerce, community volunteers and all of the children and families who helped make this a fun and memorable afternoon. The organizers are already planning for 2008 and we look forward to seeing everyone again next November. |
