2009 Columbia Power's Community Christmas Columbia Power held its fourth annual Community Christmas celebration at the Castlegar & District Community Complex on Sunday, November 29th. Over 230 people came out to partake in the fun...an exciting day where kids of all ages created Christmas ornaments from recycled materials, played games, and won prizes! We're already planning for 2010...mark Sunday, November 28th on your calendars! WHITE STURGEON POW WOW Columbia Power sponsored the 2nd Annual White Sturgeon Pow Wow that was held at Selkirk College on May 2nd and was hosted by the Ktunaxa Nation Council and the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council. This multi-generational family event featured a special dinner along with dancers and drummers. CPC's Manager of Environmental Support, Sheila Street, attended on behalf of CPC and took part in the opening celebrations, including the grand march of all pow wow participants into the auditorium. SCIENCE FAIRS SUPPORTED BY COLUMBIA POWER Columbia Power sponsored the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology’s (KAST) Community Science Celebration that was held at Selkirk College, Castlegar on April 4th. In partnership with Selkirk College and Science World, Vancouver, this show presented a live, interactive demonstration that combined education, theatre and fun. It was a playful approach to learning science and technology, where kids could see the concepts in their textbooks come alive with colour, humour and flair. Held in conjuntion with KAST's Science Celebration was the West Kootenay Regional Science Fair, also held at Selkirk College on April 4th. Columbia Power sponsored this event as well, and provided reference material on hydropower projects in the Columbia Basin to students and teachers. Columbia Power Sponsors Fly Fishing Symposium On March 21st and 22nd, Columbia Power sponsored and participated in the 10th Annual West Kootenay Fly Fishing Symposium, held at the Castlegar Recreation Complex. CPC's display showcased the Slocan River Rainbow Trout Habitat Enhancement Project. Over the weekend, close to 800 people visited the many exhibits and workshops that were part of the symposium. |
